The Pilot Training

The Pilot Training

Become a commercial pilot at Lelystad Airport Toekoen Aviation Academy offers a number of training programmes.

Each programme is taught according to a detailed training syllabus and is divided into one or more of the following components: classroom study, home study, flight instruction/flying hours and simulator sessions.

Descriptions of the programmes are given below. Clear features of the AIS approach to post-school training are: - natural pre-selection; our candidates have made a conscious decision to invest in training; - valuable cost-effective training for our candidates; - an extensive database of well-trained candidates exceeding market averages; - a reduction in training & selection costs for airlines; - free access to the database for airlines.

Airline Pilot Program (APPI)

Is a fully integrated airline pilot training programme. After completing this programme, you will hold a commercial licence for large aviation. The so-called Frozen ATPL (CPL/MEP/IR with MCC) and it is possible to start your career as an airline pilot.

Already with a minimum completed MBO 4 with maths and physics, you can apply for the first selection phase or sign up for one of our information session at the office or webinar.

All parts of our courses are fully recognised by EASA and lead to the most comprehensive licence, the European EASA ATPL(A) licence Frozen ATPL. -

  • Airline Pilot Programme
  • AIS Airlines First Officer opportunities
  • Become a pilot in 28 months

AIS Airlines has a Dutch AOC and Toekoen Aviation Academy is an Approved Training Organisation (ATO). We offer almost all flight training courses!

Become a pilot? Instructor rating or keep your Type rating valid. Integrated day training, modular training or integrated evening training, it's all possible. Of course, you can also come to us for airline selection training!

All information is on this website and you can always contact us for additional questions.

Theoretical flight training

The APP programme starts with the theory training and consists of the following subjects: Airlaw Operational procedures - IFR communications - VFR communications - Principles of flight - General navigation - Radio navigation - Airframe, systems & powerplants - Meteorology - Human performance & limitations - Mass & balance - Instruments - Flight planning & monitoring - Performance

These subjects are covered in four blocks of at least 750 clock hours of classroom instruction. The lessons are given on working days in our building in Lelystad. The content of the lessons is tailored to the EASA requirements for the ATPL.

Practical flying training

Practical flight training starts on a single-engine aircraft (SEP) with basic visual flight training (VFR). After completing the VFR section, you will continue with Instrument Flight (IFR) and Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL). Then the training will continue with the Multi engine route (MEP). Here, students learn to fly an aircraft that has multiple engines. Finally, the training will conclude with a Course in which you learn to work together in the cockpit. This is called the MCC course. The entire practical training consists of the following phases:

  • Phase 1 VFR to solo on the TB-9
  • Phase2 VFR navigation on the TB-9 & navigation examination
  • Phase 3 IFR Basic in the simulator and on the TB-10
  • Phase 4 IFR Navigation and Single Engine on the FNPTII simulator and the TB-10 for actual lessons
  • Phase 5 CPL Exam on the TB-20
  • Phase 6 Multi Engine flying; on the FNPTII simulator and the Cessna T303/Piper PA-44-181 Seminole
  • Phase 7 Advanced UPRT
  • Phase 8 MCC course on the FNPTII Cessna Citation Jet simulator

Other Phases; Radiotelephony course VFR, incl. exam, Radiotelephony course IFR, incl. exam, Language proficiency endorsement

Airline Pilot Program Modular (APPM)

Toekoen Aviation Academy offers aspiring pilots with ambitions for commercial aviation a new modular flight training with job security in addition to the integral flight training.

Unlike the integral training, the modular variant can be taken at one's own pace. In doing so, students do not have to quit the permanent job that provides a basic income.

Thus, the modular training can be taken alongside the existing job. According to AIS, the modular programme is tailor-made and offers flexibility, among other things. It takes into account students' own pace and personal needs, the training provider said.

ATPL Theory is provided by Toekoen Aviation Academy's regular partner Orbit Groundschool from Arnhem. Upon successful completion of the course, employment at AIS Airlines is guaranteed. A modular course, study when you want.
